The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides skills cards for the plant sector of the Construction and allied industries.
It was launched in 2003 and since then over 300,000 cards have been issued across 60 categories of plant and related occupations. The CPCS Management Committee continually review and amend the Scheme in the light of on-going Industry feedback, and external factors such latest occupational health issues, technology advances and new plant types is where the Scheme has undertaken such amendments.

The CPCS Appointed Persons: Lifting Operations A61 course is suitable for supervisors and managers with responsibility for lifting operations. This course will give you an understanding of the appointed person’s responsibilities and how to fulfil them.
Ideal for:
The CPCS Crane Supervisor A62 course is aimed at anyone who is required to supervise safe systems of work using lifting equipment. It is recommended that prior to attending this course individuals should have some experience of working with lifting equipment, especially mobile cranes

The CPCS Crawler Crane A02 course aims to provide thorough practical and theory training in operating a Crawler Crane. This enables the candidate to competently and safely carry out the role and pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.
Ideal for:
The CPCS Dump Truck Articulated Chassis A56 course is suitable for either novice operators who need a full novice course or experienced operators requiring a 1 day practical and theory test.
Experienced operators need only undertake the CPCS Technical Test (theory and practical elements), however familiarisation training is recommended.
Ideal for:
The CPS Excavator 180 Wheeled A10 and A12 course is for people with limited or no experience of using 180 degree wheeled excavators. You will learn to operate and maintain machines above and below 5 tonnes.

The CPS Forward Tipping Dumpers A09 course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a wheeled forward tipping dumper.

The CPCS Lifting with Excavators A59C course is suitable for those who want foundation training in lifting with excavators safely and productively.

The CPCS Lorry Loader A36 course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a lorry loader.

The CPCS Mobile Crane A60 course is for people with limited or no experience of operating mobile cranes.

The CPCS Mini Excavator A58 course is for people with limited or no experience of using mini excavators. It´s also suitable for people who have some experience, but need a formal qualification.

The CPCS Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane A04C course is for people with limited or no experience of using pedestrian operated tower cranes.

The CPCS Ride on Road Roller A31 course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a ride-on road roller.

The CPCS Slinger / Signaller A40 course is for people with limited or no experience of slinging and signalling, who want to gain entry into the lifting industry.

The CPCS Telescopic Handler A17 course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a telescopic handler.
The A17 telehandler course is split into 3 separate categories. These are:
A: Industrial Telescopic
B: Up to 9 metres
C: All sizes ex. 360-degree slew

The CPCS Tower Crane A04 course is for people with limited or no experience of using tower cranes.

The CPCS Wheeled Loading Shovel A21 course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a wheeled loading shovel.

The CPCS Wastemaster Training Wheeled Loading Shovel A21 course is for people with limited or no experience of using a JCB Wastemaster loading shovel. You will learn to operate the Wastemaster safely for use in the waste and recycling industries.

The CPCS Take Control Vehicle Marshalling course will prepare you to recognise the importance of accepting and dispersing vehicles safely and efficiently.

This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a 360 degree tracked excavator above 10 tonnes.
On passing the technical tests, the Training provider will apply for the CPCS trained operator card (red card) on your behalf.
Mandatory entry requirements
CITB health, safety and environment test passed no more than two years before the course start date.
Good understanding of spoken and written English.
Ideal for:
This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a 360 degree wheeled excavator above 10 tonnes.
On passing the technical tests, the Training provider will apply for the CPCS trained operator card (red card) on your behalf.Mandatory entry requirements

Ideal for:
This course is aimed at persons who will be using the Telescopic Handler 360 Slew on construction sites. Formally known as category A17D, the A77 category was created by the CPCS awarding body in 2018 due to the need for candidates to have more thorough training and testing on the 360 Slew.
This Foundation course is typically five days in duration and is suitable for those with little or no experience on the machine.
Ideal for:
The CPCS A66 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating Compact Cranes in order to be enable the candidate to pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.
You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues.
The CITB Operatives Health & Safety touch screen test must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months)
Ideal for:
This 3 day course is for people responsible for the movement of plant and vehicles on construction sites.
You will learn how to prepare for vehicle movement and guidance, communication, plant hazards and ground conditions, work area layout and positioning.
Mandatory entry requirements
CITB Health, safety and environment test needs to have been passed within the previous 23 months before the course start date.
Good understanding of spoken and written English.

The CPCS Tester Course is for people who wish to gain the CPCS Tester Card to be able to carry out CPCS Theory and Practical tests under a CPCS Test Centre.
