This qualification has the purpose of supporting a role in the workplace.

The QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF) qualification is for those that require additional training in basic life support and management of anaphylaxis. Many attendees are those working in environments that support children that may be at risk of severe allergic reactions, for example those working in nurseries and other early years settings.

The qualification has also been designed as the perfect add-on to standard first aid courses such as the QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First aid (RQF)

What subjects does the QNUK - Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF) course cover?

  • Be able to assess an incident
  • Conduct a scene survey
  • Conduct a primary survey of a casualty
  • Summon appropriate assistance when necessary
  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty that is not breathing normally
  • Identify when to administer Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Demonstrate CPR using a manikin
  • Demonstrate CPR for:
    • a child
    • an infant
  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty that is breathing normally
  • Justify when to place a casualty into the recovery position
  • Demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position
  • Be able to recognise and manage a casualty suffering with a severe allergic reaction
  • Identify common triggers for anaphylaxis
  • Explain how to minimise the risk of an allergic reaction
  • Recognise suspected anaphylaxis
  • Identify how to administer first aid for a casualty suffering from anaphylaxis
  • Demonstrate the correct use of approved adrenaline autoinjectors
How is the QNUK - Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF) course assessed?

Candidates are assessed for this qualification using the following methods:

  • Multiple-choice question paper
  • Practical observation

Multiple-Choice Question paper

Each candidate will be assessed for this qualification by the completion of a multiple-choice question paper. Candidates will be required to score a minimum of 70% correct answers to achieve a pass.

Practical observation

Candidates are required to demonstrate capabilities as a first aider as they would in an emergency situation, therefore, candidates will need to be able to work on the floor; for example, as with CPR

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities of administering an Adrenaline Auto Injector.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification.
