Children and young people can, on occasion demonstrate challenging behaviour. School staff may be required to positively handle children and young people to prevent them harming themselves or others. It is important that those involved in these situations are aware of the legalities surrounding positive handling.
The QNUK Level 2 award in Positive Handling in Schools (RQF) qualification that indicates an individual can undertake a specific role in the workplace that can be relied upon by employers.
This qualification provides an introduction to the principles of positive handling in a school environment.

Understand the law relating to disengagement and physical intervention when working with young people and vulnerable adults
Explain the concepts of ´reasonable force´, ´necessity´ and ´proportionality´
Explain how legislation and guidance relating to disengagement and physical intervention impacts upon work with young people and vulnerable adults
Know the risk factors associated with physical intervention
Describe the factors that increase the likelihood that physical intervention will be required
Describe the individual factors which may increase the risk of injury
Describe the situational factors which may increase the risk of injury
Describe how to reduce risks associated with physical intervention
Each candidate is required to complete a range of questions to support them being able to demonstrate competence for each of the assessment criterion.
Candidates are required to demonstrate competence for each assessment criteria.
Each candidate is able to submit their answers for assessor feedback prior to making final submissions.
Candidates final submissions are graded as pass or fail.
This qualification is available to those over 18 years. Candidates should be at least a level 1 numeracy and literacy or equivalent
