What is the NPORS - Industrial Counterbalanced Lift Truck Refresher course?

Level: Beginner

Candidates must have a current Fork Lift Counterbalance certificate and be able to provide proof of this prior to course commencement.

All candidates should be reasonably fit, both physically and mentally, have the learning ability and potential to become competent operators and be over the minimum age of 16 (except in ports, where they must be at least 18 years old, unless they are undergoing a suitable course of training and are properly supervised by a competent person). Children under 16 should never operate lift trucks. Candidates selected for this course should be reliable and have a responsible attitude towards the workplace.

Any experienced Fork Lift Counterbalance Operators who would like to renew their certification.

What subjects does the NPORS - Industrial Counterbalanced Lift Truck Refresher course cover?

To refresh knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

A basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as plant operator.

A working knowledge of the manufactures handbook for the particular machine to be used.

Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.

Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.

Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufactures and legislative requirements.

Safely mount and dismount the machine.

Start and stop the engine and safely move the machine off and stop safely.

Configure the machine for travel and manoeuver it safely laden and unladed, in open and confined areas.

Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.

Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out lifting and load handling tasks.

Carry out lifting and load handling tasks.

Lift and transfer loads accurately and safety at different locations.

Load and unload external transport safely.

Fit, adjust and or remove attachments.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.

Carry out all end of shift shut down procedures.
