This regulated qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to work as a CCTV operative as it provides them with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence in this field. It has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Subjects covered include roles and responsibilities of CCTV operators, codes of practice, operational procedures and guidelines, CCTV equipment and operation and surveillance techniques.

This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a CCTV Operator in Public Space Surveillance. This qualification is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by Skills for Security, the standards setting body for the security industry and the SIA, which regulates the private security industry.

To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake 32-hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 23contact hours (3-days) if flexible distance learning is undertaken. Topics covered

These include the key purposes of the private security industry, the differences between civil and criminal Law, the roles and responsibilities of each member of the CCTV team, the importance of accurate record-keeping, equipment fault reporting procedures, and actions to take if a suspicious object is found in the CCTV control room.

It is divided into 3-units and is assessed through two multiple-choice examinations and a practical test. These units are as follows:

Unit 1: Working within the Private Security Industry

Assessed by a 1-hour, 40-question, multiple-choice examination. Learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40 to pass this unit.

Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry

Assessed by a 1-hour, 40-question, multiple-choice examination. Learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40 to pass this unit.

Unit 3: Practical use of a CCTV System

Assessed by an externally set and internally assessed practical assessment. Learners must achieve a 100% pass mark.
