What is the DVSA - Class 2 Cat C course?

Category: Road-Haulage
Level: Beginner

A vehicle over 3,500kg MAM towing a trailer 750kg MAM or less

Minimum age is now 18! (This changed from 21 years of age on 10th September 2009, but you are required to pass your Drivers CPC Initial Qualification tests).

Medical required. (This will last until your 45th birthday, or for 5 years if you are already over 40 when you have it).

You must have your full car driving licence with C provisional entitlement.

You may require the Driver CPC Initial Qualification if you want to drive commercially.

The DVSA Class 2 Cat C course certificate has 5 years validity.

It is recommended that you check with your course tutor for information on DVSA - Class 2 Cat C refresher courses and their recommended frequency or the next step qualification.

Who is the DVSA - Class 2 Cat C course designed for?

There are several steps that need to be completed to gain your licence. Firstly you need to get the provisional category C added to your licence, this requires forms D2 and D4 being completed. Form D2 is to have the provisional added and D4 is the medical form and must be completed by a doctor. Once you have added the provisional you then need to pass the Multiple Choice and Hazard Perception theory tests before you can take the practical driving course and test. Depending on your age, when you passed your car test and the reason for gaining the licence you may have to complete either Periodic (35 Hours) or Initial (Modules 2 and 4) CPC
