This qualification is designed to prepare learners to progress into further/higher level training and is designed to provide learners with an awareness of the benefits of risk assessment in any environment.

Level 2 Award Principles in Risk Assessment was created in response to industry requirements for all employees to be risk aware. Although not all employees will be expected to undertake risk assessments themselves, they may be asked to contribute to the process and will be expected to act always to protect their own health and safety and that of others.

This qualification is designed to be an introduction to the principles of Risk Assessment. It covers why risk assessments are necessary, the legal requirements relating to risk assessments and simple processes for carrying out a risk assessment. It is suitable for learners working in any environment who need to be more risk aware by raising their knowledge of risk in the workplace and basic things they can do to control it.

The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners to progress into further/higher level training and is designed to provide learners with an awareness of the benefits of risk assessment in any environment.

The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the responsibilities of employers - the main causes and costs of work-related fatalities, injuries and ill-health - the role of risk assessment in the prevention of accidents and ill-health - the requirements of a risk assessment - a process for undertaking a risk assessment - and a method to evaluate risk

The qualification can be taken as a stand-alone or as part of a wider programme of training, it is suitable for learners aged 14+ and has one mandatory unit to complete.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

This qualification is usually achieved by taking a one-day classroom-based course, however, it can also be achieved through a variety of other methods including blended, distance and e-learning.

How is it assessed?

It is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the learner must answer atleast 9 out of 15 questions correctly. The examination will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete.

Highfield - Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment

This qualification has been developed for those who have a responsibility to conduct risk assessments at low-risk premises.

The objective of the qualification is to support a role in the workplace as a risk assessor.

This qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility to conduct risk assessments at low risk premises.

It covers the principles of risk assessment, the relationship between hazard and risk and requires learners use the knowledge learned on the course by undertaking a risk assessment. Therefore, laying a foundation for further development as a risk assessor.

How is it assessed?

This qualification is assessed in two parts:

  • Part 1: Multiple-choice question (MCQ) examination

Containing 30 questions that must be completed within 60 minutes.

  • Part 2: Centre-set and marked assessment

Learners are expected to undertake a risk assessment, which will be internally set and assessed by the centre and externally moderated by Highfield.

QA - Level 2 Award in Principles of Risk Assessment

The QA Level 2 Award in Principles of Risk Assessment (RQF) is ideal for anyone in a work environment

During this 1 day course, Learners will gain a basic introduction into the principles of risk assessment. Topics covered include: main causes of work-related fatalities, basic processes for undertaking a risk assessment, key terms associated with risk assessments, methods that can be used to prioritise risks and more.

How is it assessed?

1 x 30 Multiple Choice Question Paper (Theory assessment) and continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course

QA - Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment

The QA Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment (RQF) is ideal for those who have a responsibility for conducting risk assessments in low risk environments, such as supervisors and site managers. This qualification is also suitable for those who significantly contribute to the risk assessment process, e.g. team leaders and technicians

During this 2 day course, Learners will develop their knowledge of risk assessment processes so that they can apply their knowledge and skills when completing risk assessments in the workplace. Topics covered include: the importance of health and safety in the workplace, the principles involved in risk assessment and the relationship between hazard and risk as part of an accident and ill health strategy.

Learners will apply their knowledge of the risk assessment process by completing risk assessments of the workplace

QNUK - Level 2 Award in Principles of Workplace Risk Assessment (RQF)

The QNUK Level 2 Award in Principles of Workplace Risk Assessment (RQF) qualification is for anyone looking to improve their knowledge related to health and safety risk assessments, or looking to support competent risk assessors. 

The qualification is ideally aimed at employees looking to take on more health and safety responsibilities.

The QNUK Level 2 Award in Principles of Workplace Risk Assessment (RQF) qualification is aimed at those looking to support the undertaking of workplace risk assessment.

This is a qualification that indicates an individual can undertake a specific role in the workplace and that may be relied upon by employers.

This qualification comprises a single unit.

Guided learning hours (GLH) = 6

Total Qualification Time (TQT) = 6

How is it assessed?

There is a single multiple choice question paper. Learners must achieve a minimum of 70% to pass.

This qualification is available to those over 14 years. Candidates should be at least a level 1 numeracy and literacy or equivalent

QNUK - Level 3 Award in Workplace Risk Assessment (RQF)

The QNUK Level 3 Award in Workplace Risk Assessment (RQF) qualification is those looking to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to undertake suitable and sufficient workplace risk assessments. 

Candidates will be assessed on completing a workplace risk assessment and reporting on their findings. 

The QNUK Level 3 Award in Workplace Risk Assessment (RQF) qualification is aimed at those looking to undertake a workplace risk assessment.

This is a qualification that indicates an individual can undertake a specific role in the workplace and that may be relied upon by employers.

This qualification comprises a single unit.

Guided learning hours (GLH) = 12

Total Qualification Time (TQT) = 20

How is it assessed?

This qualification is assessed by learners completing a multiple choice question paper and completing a risk assessment supported by a report on the findings and recommendations.

Learners must achieve a minimum of 70% to pass.

This qualification is available to those over 16 years. Candidates should be at least a level 2 numeracy and literacy or equivalent.

Unaccredited - Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS)

This RAMS Awareness course is aimed at managers, supervisors, safety representatives or any other person with the responsibility of documenting risk assessments and method statements. There are no pre-requisites for delegates attending this training course however a basic knowledge of general health and safety would be an advantage.

Health and safety legislation demands that employers assess the risk to the health, safety and welfare of their employees in their companys activities. Those documenting risk assessments and method statements must be competent to do so and understand the technical aspects of both the tasks and the assessment process. The RAMS Awareness (Risk Assessment and Method Statement Awareness) course aims to enable you to accomplish this task.
