The CPCS Appointed Persons: Lifting Operations A61 course is suitable for supervisors and managers with responsibility for lifting operations. This course will give you an understanding of the appointed person’s responsibilities and how to fulfil them.

The CPCS Appointed Persons: Lifting Operations A61 course aims to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Appointed Person. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to identify and implement safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.

CPCS - Compact Crane-A66

The CPCS A66 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating Compact Cranes in order to be enable the candidate to pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.

You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues.

The CITB Operatives Health & Safety touch screen test must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months)

There are 4 separate CPCS endorsements for this category. They are:

  • A66A: Compact Crane – Static Stabilisers
  • A66B: Compact Crane – Mobile Stabilisers
  • A66C: Compact Crane – Luffing Static Duties
  • A66D: Compact Crane – 360 Pick and Carry
How is it assessed?

Candidates will take:

  • a verbal theory test
  • a practical assessment.

Successful candidates will receive a 2 Year CPCS Category A66 Red Trained Operator License

Those with 2-3 years or more experience can add on the NVQ assessment at the same time to progress straight to the 5 Year CPCS Blue Competent Operator card

CPCS - Crane Supervisor A62

The CPCS Crane Supervisor A62 course is aimed at anyone who is required to supervise safe systems of work using lifting equipment. It is recommended that prior to attending this course individuals should have some experience of working with lifting equipment, especially mobile cranes

CPCS - Crawler Crane A02

The CPCS Crawler Crane A02 course aims to provide thorough practical and theory training in operating a Crawler Crane. This enables the candidate to competently and safely carry out the role and pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.

CPCS - Dump Truck Articulated Chassis A56

The CPCS Dump Truck Articulated Chassis A56 course is suitable for either novice operators who need a full novice course or experienced operators requiring a 1 day practical and theory test.

Experienced operators need only undertake the CPCS Technical Test (theory and practical elements), however familiarisation training is recommended.

CPCS - Excavator 180 Wheeled A10 and A12

The CPS Excavator 180 Wheeled A10 and A12 course is for people with limited or no experience of using 180 degree wheeled excavators. You will learn to operate and maintain machines above and below 5 tonnes.

The CPS Excavator 180 Wheeled A10 and A12 course teaches safe operation and maintenance of 180 degrees wheeled and tracked excavators. A10 provides training for excavators below 5 tonnes. A12 provides training for excavators above 5 tonnes.

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical training.

Completing the course successfully will entitle you to a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (upon successful completion of the appropriate CPCS Technical Test).

CPCS - Excavator 360 Tracked: Above 10 Tonnes A59A

This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a 360 degree tracked excavator above 10 tonnes.

On passing the technical tests, the Training provider will apply for the CPCS trained operator card (red card) on your behalf.

Mandatory entry requirements

  • CITB health, safety and environment test passed no more than two years before the course start date.
  • Good understanding of spoken and written English.

The CPCS A59A course aims to provides candidate with thorough practical and theory training for operating a 360 degree Excavator (Tracked) in order to pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.

  • 8 days learning through a mix of classroom-based teaching and practical exercises

CPCS - Excavator 360 Wheeled: Above 10 Tonnes A59A

This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a 360 degree wheeled excavator above 10 tonnes.

CPCS - Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane A04C

The CPCS Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane A04C course is for people with limited or no experience of using pedestrian operated tower cranes.

The CPCS Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane A04C course replaces the A63 and is for people with limited or no experience of using pedestrian operated tower cranes.

It teaches you how to operate a pedestrian operated tower crane safely and productively.

CPCS - Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73

This 3 day course is for people responsible for the movement of plant and vehicles on construction sites.

You will learn how to prepare for vehicle movement and guidance, communication, plant hazards and ground conditions, work area layout and positioning.

Mandatory entry requirements

  • CITB Health, safety and environment test needs to have been passed within the previous 23 months before the course start date.
  • Good understanding of spoken and written English.

    The CPCS Slinger / Signaller A40 course is for people with limited or no experience of slinging and signalling, who want to gain entry into the lifting industry.

    You will learn how to avoid significant risks and practise the clear, precise signals you need to give to vehicles.

    1 day training delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical instruction.

    CPCS - Telescopic Handler 360 slew A77

    This course is aimed at persons who will be using the Telescopic Handler 360 Slew on construction sites. Formally known as category A17D, the A77 category was created by the CPCS awarding body in 2018 due to the need for candidates to have more thorough training and testing on the 360 Slew.

    This Foundation course is typically five days in duration and is suitable for those with little or no experience on the machine.

    On 28th March 2018 the CPCS A17D category (telescopic handler including 360 slew) was retired from the scheme. it was replaced with the A77 category (Telescopic handler 360 slew), the new standard includes working tasks around hoist rope/ winch use which were not within the standard for A17D.

    The A77 category has also been further enhanced to cover travelling with suspended loads, and therefore will not require a separate (A17E) endorsement under this category.

    How is it assessed?

    The theory test incorporates some 101 questions. The theory test, which is CPCS’ largest to date, combines the majority of questions from the A17 Telescopic handler and A17e Suspended load test.

    The practical test also incorporates the standard telescopic handler and suspended load test, with the addition of a number of hoist rope activities.

    Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a Trained Operator (Red) CPCS card which is valid for two years.

    CPCS - Telescopic Handler A17

    The CPCS Telescopic Handler A17 course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a telescopic handler.

    The A17 telehandler course is split into 3 separate categories. These are:

    • A: Industrial Telescopic
    • B: Up to 9 metres
    • C: All sizes ex. 360-degree slew

    The CPCS Wheeled Loading Shovel A21 course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a wheeled loading shovel.

    NPORS - 360 Excavator - N202

    The NPORS N202 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating a Excavator 360 - Tracked in order to to enable the candidate to pass the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests.

    The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the basic understanding and practical skills involved in operating a 360 degree Excavator to the NPORS standard. By the end the course, all successful candidates will be able to execute a pre-shift inspection and operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with accepted good practice and NPORS standards. They will also be able to operate the machine safely under varying site conditions and carry out minor adjustments and routine services. We will also ensure that delegates have a thorough knowledge of the responsibilities under all relevant health and safety legislation.

    How is it assessed?

    To achieve the Red NPORS Trained Operator Card candidates must pass the NPORS Theory Test and the Practical Test.

    NPORS - Appointed Person-N401

    This course is aimed at supervisors and managers with responsibility for lifting operations. This course will give you an understanding of the appointed persons responsibilities and how to fulfil them.

    The NPORS Appointed Persons Lifting Operations course is designed for workers that already have construction site experience either as a slinger/signaller, or crane supervisor, or have been in a role of responsibility associated with the movement of loads.

    How is it assessed?

    NPORS Theory assessment made up of open questions.

    NPORS - Forward Tipping Dumper-N204

    The NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper training programme is designed for any personnel who are required to use or work with a Forward Tipping Dumper.

    The NPORS N204 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating a Forward Tipping Dumper in order to to enable the candidate to pass the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests

    How is it assessed?

    To achieve the NPORS Operators Card candidates must pass both the NPORS Theory and Practical Test.

    NPORS - Rear Tipping Dumper-N205

    The NPORS N205 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating a Rear Tipping Dumper in order to to enable the candidate to pass the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests.

    For learners applying for the NPORS CSCS Card, or for those requiring the HS&E TESTED Logo displayed on their card they must have passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years.

    This course is designed give candidates the theoretical and practical skills to enable them to safely operate a Rear Tipping Dumper.

    How is it assessed?

    NPORS Theory assessment made up of open questions and multiple choice.
    NPORS Practical assessment

    NPORS - Ride on Roller-N214

    This course is aimed at people who require a formal qualification for operating a ride-on roller.

    The aim of the NPORS Ride On Roller Training Course is to provide delegates with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a Ride On Roller to the NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standard.

    Successful delegates will be issued with a relevant NPORS Operators Card which is valid for 5 years.

    How is it assessed?

    NPORS Theory assessment made up of open questions and multiple choice.

    NPORS - Slinger Signaller-N402

    The NPORS Slinger Signaller  Course is designed to offer candidates the fundamental knowledge and practical skills to work as a  Slinger Signaller  to  NPORS  standards  (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)

    The NPORS N402 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in Slinging and Signalling Loads in order to to enable the candidate to pass the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests.

    How is it assessed?

    To achieve the NPORS Operators Card candidates must pass both the NPORS Theory and Practical Test.

    NPORS - Vehicle Traffic Marshall-N403T

    This course aims to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the hazards associated with moving vehicles on a site and how to provide and maintain safe access routes for pedestrians and vehicles, through the implementation of effective control measures in order to reduce risks to their health.

    To provide thorough practical and theory training in the role of a Plant and Vehicle Marshaller, enabling the candidate to pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.

    To achieve the NPORS Operator Card candidates must pass both the Theory Test and the Practical Test.
